The Philosophy of Open Becoming
- - What is Open Becoming? - -
Open Becoming is a philosphy of life that i came up with based on the lyrical and sampled content of the albums Lost and Safe and The Way Out by The Books. this philosphy has some similarity to absurdism. i am not a philosopher in any meaningful way and i do not know what i am doing, this just feels right for me to create. this is also based on how i interept these albums. a smarter person will have a different view and i embrace this alternative.
- - Central Ideals - -
in an overarching view:
Existence is inherently uncertain, impermanent, contradictory, and beyond complete human comprehension; that the self is not a fixed entity but an evolving process; and that fulfillment comes not from controlling reality or escaping it, but from releasing attachment, accepting uncertainty, remaining compassionate, and allowing oneself to be continually transformed by one's relationships with the world.
- - How to be Lost and Safe - -
- Human beings are fundamentally confused.
- Therefore, compassion is more valuable than judgment.
- Meaning is relational.
- Pay attention to the ordinary.
- Accept impermanence.
- Accept absurdity, as it can reveal truths that straightforward explanations cannot.
- - How to find The Way Out - -
- Humanity contains everything.
- The ultimate escape from suffering isn't escaping existence, but changing your relationship to existence.
- The final form of self-transcendence is identification with the larger world rather than isolation from it.
- Truth can come from places that aren't traditionally considered spiritual
- Pain must be experienced.
- Transform through the effects of uncertainty.
- Being lost can itself be the way out.
